The Battle at Dieppe ...
The Dieppe raid was a major operation p
lanned involving approximately 5,000 Canadians, along with some British and United States troops. This World War II allied attack on the German occupied port of Dieppe took place in August 1942. While the objectives of the raid - to seize and hold a major port - were admirable, it was an almost impossible challenge and over 3,600 men who made it ashore either lost their life, were wounded or captured.
Although the Dieppe cemetery is much smaller in scale than Vimy Ridge, it is very well cared for and is a quiet resting place for our fallen Canadian soldiers.
