Narni - Land of the Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe

In ancient Roman times travelers to Rome passed through Narni on the Via Flaminia.  It is said that the author C.S. Lewis got the name of the town of Narnia that’s mentioned in his children’s book, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe from seeing  the name Narni in his atlas..  Sadly, we didn’t see any mysterious large wardrobes to allow ourselves access into the magical and sometimes scary land of Narnia. While in Narni we did, however, see the Pont d’Augusto, the remains of a bridge believed to be one of the largest Roman bridges ever built. While less than half of it still remains, in its day is was 520 feet long and 180 feet high. Quite a feat considering it was built in the 1 st century. After visiting the bridge, we did a quick drive up to the ever-present fortress. Rocca Albornoz di Narni was built in 1367 to protect the town in medieval times.
