Although it is difficult to leave the City of Paris, we had to say goodbye as we needed to head to London to kick off the second week of our holiday. This trip we explored more of the London’s musical past which included a stop at the Bag O’Nails music club. This legendary club was a popular Soho meeting place for musicians in the 1960s. Some of the popular bands who played and hung out here included Jimi Hendrix, Tom Jones, and The Who. This is also the location where Paul McCarthy met his future wife, Linda Eastman, in May 1967. On another day we took part in a tour of the highlights of the city. Part of the tour included Goodwin’s Court. We have likely walked past this lane many times over the years and missed seeing this charming courtyard. True to its past and steeped in history, this area is said to have remained relatively intact since the 1600s. A step back in time, its black doors have polished brass plates, there are three large gas lamps in working order that light th...

We arrived in Paris to join Keith and Sarah for the first day our holiday! We spent the day at my personal favorite, the Musée d’Orsay. This former railway station welcomed travellers to the World Fair in 1900 before it was transformed to become a museum at the turn of the 20 th century. The Museum’s glass roof allows for lots of natural light and the large railway clock reminds visitors of the building’s historic past. After taking in the sculptures on the main floor, we made our way to the impressionist gallery to see the works of Monet, Degas, Renoir and Van Gough. Although we could have spent several more hours padding around the museum, we called it a day, stopped for crepes from a street vendor, and made our way back to the room. After Keith and Sarah gathered their gear, we enjoyed a bite to eat at a nearby café, before saying our farewells. On this vacation we took in more guided tours than usual. One of the highlights of these walking tours was our tour on the history on th...

We arrived, seven thousand miles away from our home, in Buenos Aires. After breezing through customs, we were on our way.  The sunshine and mid-30 temperature descended upon us as we headed into the city to check into our hotel.  We headed to South America for the warm temperatures and the weather was terrific!       We stayed in Recoleta, which is one of the more exclusive neighbourhoods in the city. Centrally located near many of the  areas we wanted to visit, it allowed us to do all of our touring on foot.           One afternoon we walked to the botanical gardens. The English styled gardens were opened in the late 1800s, filled with a variety of different plants and home to many orphaned cats who are now taken care of by the gardeners. While taking breaks from touring around, we enjoyed finding a shady spot on one of the benches to soak in some of the elaborate sculptures and water fountains wh...

The sights and sounds of Italy

Venice … Gondolas and Murano Glass What a way to kick off our Italian vacation! We were visiting Italy with our friends over a couple of weeks in August. After landing in Rome, we headed north to Venice where we would enjoy all that the city has to offer. The weather was great for folks to enjoy a gondola ride along the canals. We didn’t take a gondola ride but they were out in full force for many other tourists to enjoy. The famous bridge, the Bridge of Sighs was the last view of Venice that convicts saw before their imprisonment. The bridge's name comes from the thought that prisoners would sigh at their final view of the city of Venice before being taken to their cells. We toured the dark, grim prison area. It’s quite a contradiction to the beautiful city that is so close and yet so far out of reach. Venice is known for it’s murano glass. We picked up a few pieces from shops that lined the streets along the Rialto bridge. The area was brimming with tourists as we were vi...
